Meaning and Classification of Stainless Steel Corrosion

Time:2014-03-28 Click:
Detailed introduction
In a corrosive environment, the damage caused by the chemical or electrochemical interaction between metal and its surrounding medium is known as corrosion. When the selection of stainless steel is inappropriate in such an environment, corrosion can occur. There are various classifications of corrosion.
1. Based on the nature of the action, it can be divided into chemical corrosion and electrochemical corrosion.
2. In terms of the form of corrosion, it can be categorized as general (comprehensive, uniform) corrosion. General corrosion refers to corrosion distributed across the entire surface of the stainless steel. Localized corrosion includes pitting, crevice corrosion, stress corrosion, corrosion fatigue, selective corrosion, erosion corrosion, etc.
3. Depending on the environment and conditions under which corrosion occurs, it can be classified as atmospheric corrosion, industrial water corrosion, soil corrosion, acid, alkali, and salt corrosion, seawater corrosion, high-temperature corrosion (including liquid metal, molten salt, and gas corrosion), etc.
