Broad Prospects for the Application of Anti-corrosion and Wear-resistant Lined Tubing Technology

      The anti-corrosion and wear-resistant lined tubing technology is a supporting technology that focuses on lined tubing products. Based on the analysis of the causes of eccentric wear in different oil wells, it designs a reasonable combination of oil well rod and tubing to achieve the desired effect of managing eccentric wear. In recent years, with technological advancements and the development needs of oilfields, this technology has shown promising application prospects.

     With the rapid increase in the number of new directional and horizontal wells, there is an ever-growing need for oil pipes that are both corrosion and wear-resistant. Due to the increasing scarcity of land resources, more and more new wells are being drilled on a single platform, with directional or horizontal wells extending outwards to maximize the use of underground crude oil reserves while occupying minimal land area. Additionally, to reduce production and management costs, oil companies adopt a "well factory" approach on a single platform, performing assembly-line operations to drill multiple directional or horizontal wells, thereby reducing the expenses associated with drilling, well repair, and routine management—a practice predominantly used in the United States. Moreover, as the demand for crude oil rises, exploration in mountainous regions or special topographies such as oceans and lakes becomes necessary, often utilizing directional or horizontal wells for extraction. Consequently, the number of horizontal and directional wells is rapidly increasing both domestically and internationally. However, on the other hand, in the build-up sections of directional and horizontal wells, the reciprocating motion of the rod pump leads to linear contact points and friction between the sucker rod and the inner wall of the oil pipe. In the lower part of the build-up section, due to gravity and the reaction force of the piston, the sucker rod contacts and spirally bends against the bottom of the oil pipe's inner wall, causing friction. Prolonged reciprocating friction leads to wear and tear on the oil pipes, with severe cases resulting in penetration or even rupture. Therefore, the demand for corrosion and wear-resistant oil pipes is ever-increasing.

    Conventional vertical wells in old oil fields with high water cut rates are also in urgent need of corrosion and wear-resistant oil pipes. As oil fields are exploited over extended periods, the water content in oil wells has risen to between 80% and 90%, with some wells even exceeding 98%. Most vertical wells have depths ranging from 1,000 to 4,000 meters, and during drilling, these wells allow a total deviation angle of 1-3 degrees. The so-called "vertical wells" also have winding trajectories over thousands of meters. During the reciprocating motion of the rod pump, as the trajectory of the oil well bends, friction occurs between the sucker rod and the inner wall of the oil pipe. Additionally, at the lower part of the sucker rod, influenced by the piston's reaction force, the sucker rod spirally bends inside the oil pipe, causing friction around the well wall. In wells with low water content, the lubricating and protective effect of the oil mitigates damage to the oil pipes. However, in wells with high water content, the high mineralization of the groundwater repeatedly corrodes the fresh surfaces of the inner walls of the oil pipes due to the up-and-down movement of the sucker rod, leading to corrosion and, in severe cases, penetration or even rupture. Hence, there is an urgent need for corrosion and wear-resistant oil pipes to address the corrosion issues in old oil fields.
